vbulletin

Is vbulletin the best forum software out there? Are the open source ones as good? I am new to this and I plan to start a forum. It seems to me vbulletin is the most user-friendly. What do you all think?

I think so and it is great too.
Most big sites with higher pagerank seem using vbulletin,
and new version is very stable as heard.
But it is not free and required to pay to get the license to use.

Vbulletin is very secure and has a lot of mods and skins. It's Admin Panel is very easy to use and the whole forum is very user-friendly. There are many forums that offer support for it so you can fix nearly every error. It's one of the best forums out there; the only drawback? It's quite expensive for people just starting out.

It depends on your budget. If you have the budget to do it right, I suggest using Vbulletin. If you are not sure you have enough funds, than there are some good free ones out there. The best free I have used in the past that has the best security is YABB. This was the only free one that I was able to control spam but I love my Vbulletin forum the best.

My problem with vBulletin is the cost. I use phpBB, because it is free. I do not feel like spending hundreds of dollars just for the software to start a forum.
