I wish phpBB2 had been programmed like this, but it had not. Hopefully, future versions of phpBB will do more to combat spammers. Here are some simple things they could have done.

They could make it so the admin can use the admin panel to choose to:

~disallow new users to post links (i.e. the admin can decide how many posts a user needs to have before the user can post links)
~take website out of profile information
~disallow new users from having a signature
~disallow links in signatures
~better captcha system

What do you think?

I think there are many tools which are being introduced in new PHPBB 3 version. I have read very good news about it. Try that!

I upgraded my site to phpBB 3 RC5 now and the amount of spam posts is 0 now! We really don't need HYIPs, viagra and other scams...

Nobody would need that! Thanks if they eliminate it. I have been scammed once very badly and it was like a  hell to clean my forum so I decided to move to SMF.

I think it was a typo. I believe he meant "spammed".

my phpbb forum gets so much spam on it i almost stopped messing with it altogether.Not sure why my site is getting hit so much

Probably because the spambots can get in easily. You need to defend against them.
