Why do you run your forum? Is it because you love the subject of the forum? Is it because you are using it to bring traffic in to exploit elsewhere on your site? Is it solely as a money-maker? Or another reason?

I run mine for a couple of reasons. I first love the topic. I started something I love but it was with the intension of making money. I am happy with both now and my next forum will be solely for the money. I learned a lot from my forums and now I am just interesting in starting one for more money.

Xmen makes a good point about meeting various people. forums are a social spot for individuals with a common interest

I run my forum for friendship. I like to meet more new friends, especially on the IT field as I am a coder.

I started my forum for fun at first but now it has grown into a real passion Of course I did dream of thousands of visitors and AdSense Revenue to buy me a small Carribean Island :p

Well, honestly, I created my forum because I want to make money.
Now, it's not all about money. I want to meet new friends and possibly learn new things from my forum.

Hmm, I first started my forum to help others. Later I realized that maybe I could make some money from it. Now the main purpose is to provide a place for the exchange of ideas so that people can learn directly from others rather than depending on outdated books or the untrustworthy media. Given the amount of time and money I invest in it though, I will definitely like to see some returns in the future. The only things that keep me going now are that it's fun and I think it will be very successful from about September onwards. Wish me luck!

Because I make money off of them:) The first one was as a hobby, but now it's all about the money (hey, at least I'm honest with myself).

Well, I also run my forum for several reasons:
1.) When I was a newb in foruming, I got bullied alot by other people on large forums. So I decided I'd go and make my own, now, years later, I have a successful forum, a successful website and alot more than they could ask for.
2.) I really love what my website and forum have on them, I enjoy the content and I enjoy finding more content of the same- to put onto it.
3.) I think, making it easier for people to enjoy the internet is one of my main reasons. My staff and I try to be as nice as possible- while retaining our stern stance; and try to make everything our website and forum have to offer, is easily accessible, easy to understand, and just really easy overall.
4.) Another reason is for the money. I don't earn that much; as I have hardly any ads up there, but It's enough to make me happy.

At first, I just wanted to make a forum to have a huge community. Now I'm in it for a bit of money (that will be spent on the forum) and to still have a huge community.
