Hi assam_siddibapa and welcome to the forum.

As I am sure people here will mention, forums are started for very many reasons.  One reason might be to complement an existing site.  For example, you might have a site about sports cars and might eventually add a forum to the site so that fellow enthusiasts can stop by and meet other enthusiasts and return frequently to discuss a shared interest with others.  As the owner, a little later on when your forum gets popular you might wish to add a members only section or use some form of advertising to raise a little capital from the venture.

Are you asking specifically how to set up a forum?  If you are, then this depends on the type of forum and forum software you have chosen.  But broadly, you will need hosting that includes mysql, php and preferably mod_rewrite.

If you already own a web site or have hosting of some form then setting up a forum will cost nothing except a little time.  There are many free software packages including mybb, smf, phpbb and punbb and they are quite straightforward to get set up - the folks here can help you if you run in to any problems with the set up.  IMHO, the best way to proceed would be to download the packages and see which you like best and which you feel more comfortable with.  Make a test installation and check out al the features.

Whether you will benefit from it - who knows?  The success of your forum is largely in your own hands.  If you work hard at promoting it using the techniques described on this forum then the, yes, it can be a success that you wil benefit from.  Whether you measure your benefit/success on how many people join, how much money you make or some other metric, it is still possbile to build a successful forum although bear in mind forum building is a marathon, not a sprint.
