Given how difficult it is to get a forum going from scratch, did you do it alone or did you have friends and others help set up and get going?

I started my forums by myself. since i do this for a living (web development) it was easier for me to set up my forum... it was harder to get people to register to the site.

Yes, I started my forum on my own. My friends don't even know anything about making websites. Besides, I like doing things on my own.
Soon, I might just ask them to sign-up and post a little.

I started my forum on my own. Originally, I didn't really care about how active the forum was as I just wanted it to benefit my students, now things have changed though. If I were to start another forum, I would probably still do it by myself, as I have learned many things and I think I could do it on my own again.

Can't starting alone, better with a team..... one programmer and salesman as minimum requirements as I suppose. a good saleman know about about sales & marketing; especially how to promoto and get new customers. a programmer will only need to manage or upgrade the forum as it is a undoubtful fact.

Indeed I did. I was alone in the staff for months- my forum was dead for months; eventually though, I ended up making the website and forum something large enough to generate thousands and thousands of guests weekly. Now, I'm happy- I have 3 mods and another co-admin.

I like being the sole admin, as it will keep me busy dealing with members requests and such. Sure, it takes longer to do by yourself, but after administrating forums for over 2-3 years, there's not much I can't do by myself.

I think it is nice to work on a forum with at least one other person. It takes a lot of time and work creating and then launching/promoting a forum.

Exactly as me, I develope forums and websites as a hobby... I may hire staff, (1-2 admins, a few mods, etc) But soley, im usually always the main boss, because its what I do:)

I started my forums on my own too. Having more people involved would have just caused confusion and hassle. No group can work as efficiently as a driven individual. When working as a group, you have to consult your partner(s) every time you want to do something.

My first forum, yes. When I was 9 I setup my first forum with some help on IF. Since then of course I have started my own forums. But take my word from it, more work is done with a friend who is willing to help and has some interest in your forum to help it grow.

How successful did it become? It would be quite an achievement to get a successful forum up and running as a 9 year old!

I also ran a few forums on my own when I was around 9 years old too! But it was with those free forum hosting sites.
STARTING a forum alone is easy.

Me, my forum, and Google are best to start a forum. Amazingly I started it myself and finished it without any hassle. I think Google is the best companion.
