At what stage do you consider your forum as an active forum? I have a small forum with a small nucleus of regular visitors and posters, but few new members sign up. Although there are daily posts, I do not consider the forum as active as there are rarely new member sign ups.

Great question!  I suppose it differs a great deal from forum to forum, but generally when you have sufficient ongoing activity without having to participate yourself.  That might be a very general working definition of "active forum". Smiley  And, of course, active does not mean growing.

When there is sufficient content on your forum to encourage comment from new posters. remember it is not always quantity but also quality that counts. If you can provide comment-worthy content then people will comment and return.

There is not really a right answer or a wrong answer, but the general way to look at it is once there are regular posts on your site each day when you are not there and the site has a general increase in posts daily.
