Do you make any specific requirements for your moderators. For example, do they need to be online a certain length of time each day?

I usually require them to have a certain post count, and I also require that they use correct spelling and grammar. I think it makes the forum look very poor when it's staff does not use correct and polite language.

I just watch things, I dont tell them, but I will pay attention to how many posts each day they make, how much time they spend online, how many members they can referr, how helpful they are..
Its like a secret trial, if they dont seem to be doing well, I just tell them and demote them.

There are a lot of things to look for in a moderator. For good info check here:

Yes I think that ensuring that moderators have a fair amount of posts, quality posts and good grammer is important. They need to offer something of value ot the forum.

For me it is very important that moderators are a real part of my community. For this reason I wouldn't hire a complete stranger. First an applicant had to be an active member for a month and to make at least 100 posts.

It is important that they are active, know how to use the forum software and have good judgement. If they have all three then they will be a good moderator/admin.
