Do you gain much in SEO terms by including the word "forum" in your domain name?

It might give you a little help in the SERPs when people are searching for "widgets forum". But as far as people finding your site by just searching "widgets", no I don't think there is an advantage.

I think it could help a little bit when people seach for a certain kind of forum. For example if someone searched for Frugal Forums and you had Frugal and Forum in your name it could boost you up in the serps. It all depends on your niche and how common it is to search for the two words together

yes this would be beneficial only if someone will use forum in the keyword. Search Engine will also love your forum to list if you plan to have a "forum" word in domain name against some keyword which can has "forum" in it.

Yes, that is good with respect to SERPs. But at the same time you can also choose a subdomain like forums.domain.com or anything like that.

Anyhow it depends on the quality of the posts there Smiley

If you plan on making the forum directly on the root domain, they sure, put the word forum in the domain name. But if not, just use a forum sub-domain.
