Do you think it's worth the money to get your forum or website on top by paying money to get it advertised? To me i think its a good idea, if you want to have a long term website. Imagine getting advertised off Youtube that would be very good  |

I think you are right. As more and more forums in each niche are brought online and the level of competition tightens I think it will be increasingly important for forum admins/owners to shell out a little on promotion. Spending money in that area is also a way to get your forum viable in a shorter time.

it might be good. all business has risk. adwords can work well, but your site might not gain back the revenues from the adword costs.
what do u think?

Using AdWords effectively is something that you learn to do over a long period and at some expense. I have used it to advertise a niche forum and although it has been good in terms of building links and funneling a little traffic for the forum, the traffic did not convert well in to active forum members.

Imagine getting your ad on MegaUpload, it is in the top 100 Alexa Rank and costs between $4000 and $7000 per week!

For some businesses and websites I am sure that paying to promote/advertise is cost effective, sometimes even necessary. I have never personally had to spend much money on promotion but I would if I needed to do so.

The good thing about AdWords and other PPC is that you can use to get very targeted traffic. It is best if you have a very specific niche.

Its ok to spend money to promote your forum, but you'll have to make sure that you'll take it on a long period. And I personally don't think its ok to promote a forum using PPC like Adwords.
You can hire people to stir up some conversation.

I have. The price is usually inflated so be careful, but it helps. Not always of course, but Ive used it for stuff like forum directories and what not.

Money is very important for promoting, but you want to be careful. Start off small and see if it makes a difference. If it does than keep adding more to your advertising budget. You don't want to go all out at one time and have it do absolutely nothing.
