Do you submit your forums to directories? Is it a worthwhile in terms of promotion to submit forum sites to a large number of directories?

i always submit all my sites to directories because it is a good way to get the spiders to find your site.

I'm worried that Google and perhaps other search engines will start to penalize links in directories. It seems that since Google is cutting back on paid links, that their new algorithms may start to include directory links - even if we didn't pay for them.

I have heard mention of this at other forums, coolguy85. I'm not so sure they would penialize these links, maybe attach less or even no importance to them. Definitely something to bear in mind and watch in the near future.

If the search engines aren't going to count the links, then there is really no point. However, for now they appear to count.

Yes, for gaining Google PR juice there wouldn't be any point if they were discounted by G. However, there would still be some reduced benefit in gaining some traffic from the SEs, wouldn't there?

Concept and way of trading or operating always change with passage of time. I know many directories with high PR which scrutinize links before posting and many of such directories need a link back to your site or forum. In this modern and quick era, I think everything is going to be change and nothing would be generalize in near future. Anyone would have to work on some specific parameters.

I submit to a few directories but not that many.
It will get you a few backlinks etc. but there are other ways to advertise. You may get some SE's going to your site but not much else will come from them.

I would submit your site to every directory you can find. There is no secret formula to making money online. Traffic=money. If the directory only get you 2 new visitors who cares, its 2 more than you had before.
Thanks, Ty

Every little bit helps. Submit to as many free directories as possible.

But can they do any harm? What happens if you submit to a directory and the directory then gets banned from Google for whatever reason and is considered a "bad neighborhood" to have links in? how does that scenario play out?
